A guide to choosing, placing, and caring for your rug — so each piece settles naturally into your space and lasts.
Size & placement
Choosing the right size rug defines how a space feels and functions.
A larger rug will anchor a room, while smaller sizes can be used to frame or layer within it.
As a guide:
- Living room: front legs of furniture should sit on the rug, or fully on for a more grounded feel
- Bedroom: extend the rug beyond the bed to create balance and softness underfoot
- Dining: allow enough space for chairs to move comfortably while remaining on the rug
We recommend using a rug pad to prevent movement and protect both the rug and the floor beneath. It also adds a layer of cushioning and helps maintain the rug’s structure over time.
Care Guide
General Care
Regular vacuuming will help maintain the rug’s appearance and texture.
Use a vacuum without a beater bar, or on a low setting, to avoid unnecessary wear on the fibres.
Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear and consistent exposure to light.
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight where possible, as natural fibres may fade over time.
Shedding
Shedding is a natural characteristic of wool rugs, particularly in the early months of use. Loose fibres will reduce over time and can be managed with regular vacuuming.
Avoid pulling loose threads — instead, trim them carefully with scissors.
Spills and stains
Attend to spills promptly to prevent absorption.
- Blot (do not rub) with a clean, dry cloth
- Use water or a mild wool-safe detergent if needed
- Work from the outside of the spill inward to avoid spreading
Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach, as these can damage the fibres and affect colour.
Cleaning
For a deeper clean, professional cleaning is recommended.
Avoid steam cleaning or excessive moisture, as this may affect the structure of the rug and backing.
Placement considerations
Use a rug pad to prevent movement and reduce friction against the floor.
Avoid placing the rug in consistently damp areas, as moisture can affect natural fibres over time.
